RESEARCH STATEMENT
I am a physician-scientist and public health researcher with over 15 years of experience advancing sexual and reproductive health, digital innovation, and equitable health systems. My work is grounded in implementation science and policy translation, focused on improving access to care for underserved populations, especially women, adolescents, and youth in low- and middle-income countries. As a mixed-methods researcher, work explores how health systems can better meet the needs of communities by integrating digital tools, inclusive policies, and community-led approaches. I specialize in designing and evaluating primary health care models that expand access to quality services, particularly in fragile and under-resourced settings. My interests involve contraception access, maternal health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and gender equity in health delivery.
At the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, I serve as an Assistant Scientist and co-lead research within the Center for Global Digital Health Innovation. This work involves multi-method research to assess the effectiveness, equity, and sustainability of digital health platforms in Sub-Saharan Africa, the U.S., and south-east Asia. I also contribute to health policy design by generating evidence that helps national governments align digital health investments with community needs. My work has informed policy briefs, national guidelines, and strategy evaluations in countries such as Indonesia, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
My primary research explores how knowledge, perceptions, and social norms influence contraceptive use, unintended pregnancy, and maternal health in low-resource settings in West Africa and the U.S. I conduct both qualitative and quantitative studies that elevate lived experiences while generating actionable insights for programs and policy. My secondary research explores how health communication, mobile health (mHealth), and behavior change strategies can improve prevention efforts. This includes using social marketing and digital tools to promote vaccine confidence, colorectal cancer screening, and respectful care among underserved communities.
I am particularly driven by translational research and implementation science with implications for advocacy, programs, policy, and behavior change. These experiences, grounded in my clinical and global public health background, shape my approach to interdisciplinary and impactful research.
